I'm Hosting A Windows 7 Launch Party!

via youtube.com

It looks so fun and easy! I can't wait to show you an overview of some of my favorite Windows 7 features. And then there will be an activity.

I'm hosting one too Leo! Thanks for mentioning it on your show - I applied and won!
Ian
Shall I bring red wine, white wine or port?
jonhowell
I think the guy in the green shirt is a little over hungry
Matthew
Dang. I received a teaser email from houseparties.com about 3 minutes before your tweet urging me to confirm quickly or I'd lose out. When I tried to confirm (I will choose a theme, I will give you the emails of my 9 closest friends without their permission...) the links were not responding for me. OH maybe it's because I'm using my Hacintosh...I'll have to try with the Dell notebook running Windows 7.
Deborah
Thanks, Leo! But do we get to fool around with Snap?
billypalooza
I can bring the Coors, it will have to work over skype. Also a heads up don't bring any Corn, there's plenty to go round in the video. : )

This has got to be the DUMBEST marketing thing ever.

Although - I call being the old woman in the blue, Leo.. cool?

Chris Blau
These actors are so good, they could play suspects/victims in CSI.

This camera work is so f'ing annoying! I am enjoying the clock over the hot mom's head change to every time of the day. What a brutal shoot this must have been.
Rick
Something tells me this party won't go anywhere without Mr. Geek Squad on the left.
Arix
Hey! I won too!

Hi Leo,
Thank you for inviting me, but I will not be able to make it, have a great and fun Windows 7 party, maybe when Windows 8 party I will be able to make it.

I'm having one too! Mine's a BYOZ party. (Bring your own Zune!)
Alykhan
I'm a host as well uncle Leo!
Andrew T.
I thought this was supposed to be a joke. I was sorely disappointed! Lamest. Thing. Evar.

I love the idea that these people sound like flight attendants when hanging around at home.
Mark Burland
I'm sorry guys, maybe it's a USA/UK thing but I can't ever image having a party to celebrate a PC operating system! I can't help thinking that MS should be paying for all the booze as you are basically becoming MS salesmen?
Ian Cummings
Is it just me, or is this video a bit cheesy?
PeterB
I can only hope the coke and hookers are as good as your XP party back in '01 Leo :-)

Who would have guessed we would wake up in Tijuana!

Mike
Shoot me now!
..something about being told how to have fun, or that I am going to have it..
winhelp3
Oh Leo, the burgandy red highlight you have look have looks great.
John Coffey
WOW, I don't know how many times I have ended a party by refering to the help section of a windows site..!!
Andrew
I have an idea.. Drinking game -

one drink for every time someone says "features"

one drink for every time someone says "activities"

one drink for every time someone says "help and how to"

Drunk in under 10 minutes ftw.

Shane M
These guys are WAY TO happy to be talking about Windows 7... I wonder how much they got paid to keep smiling?

Leo! I wouldn't miss this party for the World! See you on Oct!!

WKBBLaNico
I mean the people in the video... FYI! ;)

Look at prior message.

WKBBLaNico
I'm there Leo. I cleared the schedule, and I'm coming over from Sonoma. Can you fit all of these people in the cottage?
Todd Lloyd
Notice how the geeky guys says you need to install Windows 7 a couple of days ahead of the party. Does this mean it takes that long to install and get it working?
colin
I too am hosting a Windows 7 launch party. Mine will be on Friday, and I plan on serving my home brewed beer! Yes, I will have Windows 7 loaded on my Media Center PC connected to my 50" big screen... I doubt it will look much like the video however...
Dave K
Actually after all that i'm not sure i even saw Windows 7 shown ever
during that clip.. all they did was talk about activities and features
without actually talking about them..
Shane M
I assume that Microsoft assumes that everyone with Windows is Anti-social and does not know how the throw a party. Any Kind of Party. This is what I would do. Invite some people over and look and Windows Seven. Say Cool or Whatever and then drink and watch the game. I see what they are trying to do but... come on
Dave Diaz
Now Leo is trying hard to be a Microsoft fanboy.... Nice try. Not being invite to last Apple event made him bitter :-)
John
It is just getting more and more apparent how little these big companies get it. They should have the new anti piracy song playing in the background...."OHHH YOU WENT STRAIGHT TO THE ACTIVITY!!!" OMFG

Watching those videos, I keep wanting to buy Tupperware for some reason. And punching a bored suburban trophy wife, of course.
Moeskido
The fake camera shaking effect on that is incredibly annoying.
Kevin
it's so great, even the token black person will like it!

Lots of smart alecs hanging out in the comment section, I see. Gee, give me a free copy of Windows 7 Ulimate for having my regular friends over for a few drinks and showing them how slick WinVista7 is? Duh, count me in!
LongDono
Just too disgustingly cutesy.

Is this the new version of purple dino "Barney"? Painful fresh reminder of one thing I do not miss about when my kids were very young.
Julianne Honey Gonzalez
Ugh...Microsoft is so embarrassing...

The Win7 launch party vid is the possibly the most EMBARRASSING video I have EVER watched.
Truly a new low for MS. They just can't get any traction in their marketing, and the reason is they aren't getting any traction in their OS. It just gets worse. I was 'playing' with 7s networking recently and it's even worse than XP and the name-that-shall-not-be-mentioned in between. It's as if the ridiculous number of clicks necessary and textual information to skim (and ultimately ignore as redundant) before finding what was more obvious in a previous version is just included to keep the MS support eco-system alive.
As a long time Windows user who finally switched to Mac, who uses Ubuntu for somethings, FreeBSD for command-line only stuff, I wish I had ditched Windows years ago.
OSX just gets better every time. The interface evolves without losing you between versions, and it just gets faster on hardware - even older hardware. 3 years of using my first mac laptop and NOT one equivalent of a BSOD, NOT one virus... and lot more time spent being productive not nursing the OS.
And OSX doesn't slow down after adding drivers, 3rd party software librarys, apps, etc. It just runs and does what it does.

And the quality of free software and tools that comes with it outclasses most of the paid crap that comes with Windows.

I wish I could take back all the years I wasted nursing, maintaining, and trying to keep Windows as fast and clean as it was the day I installed it.

It's not possible.

But a Mac runs like the day you bought it - even three years later.

I could go on.

But I'm not a paid 'house party person'.

Unbelievably embarrassing. It's like Windows is for people to ignorant, stupid, or just childish to try better.

And I'm not a Mac snob. I use about 4 or 5 different OSes everyday, and Mac can work with all of them (network, convert files, etc etc), while never crashing on me. And its graphics system leads the pack, which is why more games will be coming to Mac via the iPhone.

Here's how 'real people' distribute their time over OSes:

Windows = games (shrinking share)
Mac = everything (games/design/work)
Ubuntu (Any linux distro) = work

There's just no way you could trust your work to a Windows box without a whole IT department to keep everything safe and maintained.

To the Windows snobs - people don't just love Macs for their hardware. We know you can trick out any 'PC' with any hardware. But try getting it to work. The only laptop I could get my Windows Mobile (pre iPh purchase) to bluetooth with is my Mac because MS bluetooth tools and device support has been so crap.

We love Macs because the OS is the best of mix for work and play, the hardware integration is awesome, they don't just look good - they are engineered to the smallest detail to be 'useable', and rather than have to find/pay for a bunch of crappy 3rd party extentions, OSX already has so many useful features built in - it's like they actually listened to customers when they designed it - didn't just put out betas to iron out device support.
