The Win7 launch party vid is the possibly the most EMBARRASSING video I have EVER watched.
Truly a new low for MS. They just can't get any traction in their marketing, and the reason is they aren't getting any traction in their OS. It just gets worse. I was 'playing' with 7s networking recently and it's even worse than XP and the name-that-shall-not-be-mentioned in between. It's as if the ridiculous number of clicks necessary and textual information to skim (and ultimately ignore as redundant) before finding what was more obvious in a previous version is just included to keep the MS support eco-system alive.
As a long time Windows user who finally switched to Mac, who uses Ubuntu for somethings, FreeBSD for command-line only stuff, I wish I had ditched Windows years ago.
OSX just gets better every time. The interface evolves without losing you between versions, and it just gets faster on hardware - even older hardware. 3 years of using my first mac laptop and NOT one equivalent of a BSOD, NOT one virus... and lot more time spent being productive not nursing the OS.
And OSX doesn't slow down after adding drivers, 3rd party software librarys, apps, etc. It just runs and does what it does.
And the quality of free software and tools that comes with it outclasses most of the paid crap that comes with Windows.
I wish I could take back all the years I wasted nursing, maintaining, and trying to keep Windows as fast and clean as it was the day I installed it.
It's not possible.
But a Mac runs like the day you bought it - even three years later.
I could go on.
But I'm not a paid 'house party person'.
Unbelievably embarrassing. It's like Windows is for people to ignorant, stupid, or just childish to try better.
And I'm not a Mac snob. I use about 4 or 5 different OSes everyday, and Mac can work with all of them (network, convert files, etc etc), while never crashing on me. And its graphics system leads the pack, which is why more games will be coming to Mac via the iPhone.
Here's how 'real people' distribute their time over OSes:
Windows = games (shrinking share)
Mac = everything (games/design/work)
Ubuntu (Any linux distro) = work
There's just no way you could trust your work to a Windows box without a whole IT department to keep everything safe and maintained.
To the Windows snobs - people don't just love Macs for their hardware. We know you can trick out any 'PC' with any hardware. But try getting it to work. The only laptop I could get my Windows Mobile (pre iPh purchase) to bluetooth with is my Mac because MS bluetooth tools and device support has been so crap.
We love Macs because the OS is the best of mix for work and play, the hardware integration is awesome, they don't just look good - they are engineered to the smallest detail to be 'useable', and rather than have to find/pay for a bunch of crappy 3rd party extentions, OSX already has so many useful features built in - it's like they actually listened to customers when they designed it - didn't just put out betas to iron out device support.
